Delhi HC quashes UPSC's OBC certificate rule for CAPF candidates
The Delhi High Court just called out the UPSC and MHA for disqualifying CAPF candidates because of delays in getting their OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificates.
The court said this rule was "arbitrary and unreasonable" and didn't actually help with reservations.
Now, if your certificate is issued any time during the financial year, it has to be accepted—so more candidates get a fair shot at these jobs.
What this means for candidates
The court pointed out that announcing strict deadlines at the last minute isn't fair, especially since OBC status is something you're born with—the certificate just proves it.
Disqualifying people based on when their paperwork was issued goes against equal opportunity rights (Articles 14 and 16).
This decision should make government recruitment a bit more just for everyone.
