Court grants interim bail to Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid

A Delhi court has granted interim bail to Umar Khalid, a former Jawaharlal Nehru University scholar and accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case. Khalid had sought bail to attend his sister's wedding. "Considering the fact that the marriage is of the real sister of the applicant....the applicant is granted interim bail from 16.12.2025 to 29.12.2025 on furnishing of personal bond of ₹20,000/- with two sureties of the like amount subject to the following conditions," the court said.

The court has specified that Khalid cannot use social media during this period. He is only allowed to interact with his family members, relatives, and friends. The court also directed him to stay at home or at the venues where the wedding ceremonies will be held. Khalid has requested bail from December 14 until December 29. His sister's wedding is scheduled to take place on December 27.

Khalid's arrest and previous bail
Khalid was arrested in September 2020 and charged with several offenses, including criminal conspiracy, rioting, and unlawful assembly under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). He had earlier been granted seven days of bail in December 2024 for his cousin's wedding. On Wenesday, the Supreme Court had reserved its verdict in the regular bail plea filed by Khalid and five other accused in the riots case.
