Delhi HC to hear Mahua Moitra's side in pet battle
The Delhi High Court has stepped into a rather unusual dispute: who gets to keep Henry, a Rottweiler at the center of a legal battle between Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and her former partner Jai Anant Dehadrai.
After Dehadrai's first plea was turned down by a lower court, the High Court now wants to hear Moitra's side before deciding anything.
The next hearing is set for May 14.
Why the case has become a talking point
Dehadrai argues that pets are considered property under law, so there's technically no "custody" to fight over, something he feels the district court overlooked last November.
Meanwhile, Moitra sought interim relief for shared custody of Henry, but the district court refused to pass an interim order. She then challenged that decision with a petition in the High Court (date not specified).
With both sides digging in and the story involving public figures (and an adorable dog), this case has definitely caught people's attention.
