Delhi High Court questions nationwide Telegram ban over NEET-UG leak
The Delhi High Court is wondering whether banning Telegram for everyone just because of the NEET-UG paper leak makes sense.
The app was blocked after the National Testing Agency canceled the May 3 exam on May 12, which is still under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Justice Tejas Karia pointed out that it is tough to justify restricting 150 million users for an issue affecting only a handful of students.
Court seeks submissions on Telegram ban
The government argued that Telegram's setup lets one person create up to 40 bots, making it easy to spread leaked information fast.
Telegram's legal team pushed back, saying a blanket ban is not fair to all users.
After hearing both sides, the court asked for written submissions by Thursday evening and will decide soon.
The ban is expected to end on June 22.
