Delhi just had its cleanest air in 8 years
India
From January to August 2025, Delhi saw its best air quality in nearly a decade, with average AQI dropping to 172—the lowest since 2018 (if you don't count the lockdown year).
PM2.5 and PM10 pollution levels also hit record lows, and the city enjoyed almost double the "good air" days compared to 2016.
Why does it matter?
Cleaner air means healthier lungs for everyone—especially students and young people who spend time outdoors.
This progress comes from coordinated efforts like stricter pollution rules, better monitoring apps, and action on crop burning.
But winter still brings big spikes in pollution, so keeping up these efforts (and teamwork with neighboring states) is crucial if we want fresher air all year round.
