Delhi Police tackles child porn cases, sees sharp drop in 2025
In 2025, Delhi Police's Special Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) registered 60 FIRs for child pornography and online sexual abuse of minors—down 56% from last year.
These cases came from 1,197 leads flagged by the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), out of a massive total of 10,151 tips received this year.
Most tips didn't lead to action—and here's why
Most NCMEC leads weren't actually about India: 106 were sent back as non-India-related, over 6,000 were passed on to other states after checking jurisdiction, and nearly 2,800 leads were closed after verification.
SPUWAC's bigger mission: fighting abuse & empowering women
Beyond cybercrimes, SPUWAC has handled thousands of counseling complaints on dowry harassment and domestic violence since 2015—filing nearly a thousand FIRs when needed.
Plus, their self-defense programs have trained over three million women and girls across Delhi by December this year.
