MMRDA's new Eastern Freeway extension: Faster Thane-Mumbai commutes coming soon

India

Big news for Mumbai travelers: the MMRDA has kicked off work on a 13.9-km, six-lane elevated freeway connecting Chheda Nagar (Ghatkopar) to Anand Nagar (Mulund-Thane).
Once done, you could get from South Mumbai to Thane in just 25-30 minutes—way faster than today's traffic crawl.

What makes this project cool?

This extension isn't just about speed. With ramps at Mulund, Airoli, and Vikhroli, it's designed for smooth rides across the eastern suburbs—no more endless bottlenecks.
The engineering is impressive too: wide spans and a modern toll plaza near Navghar Flyover mean it'll handle lots of traffic without feeling cramped.

When can you expect to use it?

Construction is already about 5% done.
The goal? Shorter commutes for millions and less chaos on the Eastern Express Highway—all while sticking to promises about protecting trees along the way.
