Delhi rolls out Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana for girls' financial independence
Delhi just rolled out the Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana to help girls become more financially independent and encourage them to stay in school.
Starting April 1, 2026, this scheme replaces the old Ladli Scheme and offers up to ₹61,000 in installments as girls hit key education milestones, from birth all the way through higher studies.
Income cap ₹1.2L Aadhaar deposits
If your family earns up to ₹1.2 lakh a year and you're studying in a recognized school (maximum of two girls per family), you're eligible, provided you were born in Delhi and have lived there for at least three years.
The money grows with interest (up to ₹1.2 lakh) and is deposited into an Aadhaar-linked account, ready when you finish Class 12 or reach the applicable maturity age of 18 or 21, depending on the milestone.
There are also relaxed rules for girls living in child care institutions, so even those from tough backgrounds don't miss out on this support.
