Delhi to rename Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, Rekha Gupta to announce
India
Delhi's government is set to rebrand the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC) to better celebrate Old Delhi's rich history.
Some of the names being considered (like Indraprastha Virasat Punarsthaapana Nigam) are inspired by the city's ancient roots.
The final pick will be announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, following a key meeting held on March 13, 2026.
Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation faces roadblocks
SRDC has been behind major heritage projects like the Chandni Chowk makeover, but hit roadblocks expanding near Jama Masjid.
This renaming move is part of a bigger push to connect Delhi with its legendary past as Indraprastha from the Mahabharata era.
Leaders hope it'll spotlight Old Delhi's culture.
