Editors Guild condemns BJP vilifying journalists, warns press freedom threatened
The Editors Guild of India (EGI) has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for tagging journalists as "Dimagi Naxals" on its official social media.
This came after BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accused "Intellectual Naxals" of supporting violence and rejecting democratic solutions.
The EGI also spoke up against the targeting of senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, a former Guild president, in a BJP video, saying such attacks threaten press freedom.
Editors Guild urges BJP halt vilification
EGI urged the BJP to stop vilifying journalists, reminding everyone that dissent and scrutiny are part of the democratic process.
Their statement arrives just as India dropped to 157th in the 2026 < em>World Press Freedom Index, citing violence against reporters and concentrated media ownership as big reasons for the slide.
