Ex-Kerala DGP Jacob Thomas quits politics, joins RSS full-time

India

Jacob Thomas, who once led Kerala's police force as DGP, just announced he's joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) full-time.
After wrapping up his 34-year IPS career in 2017, he tried his hand at politics with BJP but didn't win the 2021 state election.
Now, he's shifting gears to focus on community work.

More about Thomas's decision

Thomas will be suiting up in traditional 'ganavesha' for the big RSS Vijayadashami procession in Kochi on October 2, 2025.
He says he is guided by the ideals of legends like Chhatrapati Sivaji, Subhash Chandra Bose, and Sardar Patel.
For him, it's less about politics and more about contributing to national progress and social service—especially as RSS heads into its centenary year.

Controversies during Thomas's career

Known for taking a strong stand against corruption and speaking his mind, Thomas has held major roles, including heading Kerala's Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau and serving as DGP.
His career hasn't been without controversy—including land holding allegations—but he's always kept public service at the center of what he does.
