Flood worries return in Prayagraj as Ganga slows, Yamuna recedes
Flood worries are back in Prayagraj as the Ganga's rise slowed and the Yamuna began to recede.
On Sunday, the Ganga was 81.27 meters at 8am after rising 16cm in 24 hours, then eased to 81.26 meters by 4pm
while the Yamuna fell to 80.46 meters by 4pm Sunday, marking its first decline in nearly a week.
Prayagraj teams ready, shelters open
Even with a bit of stabilization, officials aren't relaxing. Ongoing rainfall forecasts and water flowing in from nearby rivers have everyone watching closely.
Flood shelters are open, disaster response teams are ready, and people in low-lying city areas are moving their stuff to safer spots.
In villages nearby, folks are preparing to move livestock after fields got flooded, plus nearly 900,000 cusecs of water released upstream are putting extra pressure on the river system.
