Former MP Naresh Gujral loses ₹7.8cr in WhatsApp RTGS scam
Naresh Gujral, former Rajya Sabha MP and son of former PM IK Gujral, lost a whopping ₹7.8 crore in a cyber scam this week.
Hackers got into his WhatsApp, pretended to be him, and convinced an employee at his company to transfer money through four RTGS transactions.
The employee informed Gujral's daughter about the transfer after the transactions had already been made, and the family reported the fraud when Gujral's daughter told her father, who quickly alerted it.
Delhi Police IFSO freezes nearly ₹4cr
Delhi Police's IFSO unit managed to freeze nearly ₹4 crore, about 60% of the stolen cash, while investigating the case. The money had already been moved across several accounts.
Gujral runs a textile and apparel firm in South Delhi, so this hit close to home for his business too.
