Four Maoists with ₹23L bounty surrender in Chhattisgarh
Four Maoists—two men and two women—have surrendered to police in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, giving up after years on the run.
Together, they had a bounty of ₹23 lakh for their roles in violent attacks.
Their surrender is part of the state's ongoing Poona Margem initiative, which encourages former rebels to leave violence behind and rejoin society.
Who surrendered and why it matters
The group includes Manjula (alias Laxmi Potai), linked to 16 attacks including the 2009 Madanwada ambush that killed 29 security personnel, and Ramsai (alias Lakhan Marrapi), involved in over 42 incidents like the deadly Gumdideeh-Konde ambush.
Under Chhattisgarh's rehab policy, each will get ₹50,000 to help restart life.
Over 2,380 Maoists have surrendered in two years as peace efforts ramp up.
The central government hopes to end Maoism by March 2026—with these surrenders marking steady progress toward that goal.
