Ghaziabad tops India's air pollution charts in November 2024

India

Ghaziabad had the worst PM2.5 air pollution in India last month, averaging 224 ug/m3—way above safe limits every single day.
Delhi wasn't far behind, with its average nearly doubling since October.

Pollution spike hits NCR hard

Out of 29 NCR cities, 20 saw pollution rise compared to last year, showing that dirty air is now a region-wide problem and not just a Delhi issue.

City life fuels the smog

Even though stubble burning dropped sharply—down to just 7% of Delhi's PM2.5—year-round sources such as transport, industry, power plants, and other combustion sources kept pollution dangerously high.

Air crisis stretches across India

It's not just an NCR thing: More than 100 cities nationwide went over daily PM2.5 limits in November.
Only Shillong and Gangtok met WHO's clean air standards, while most polluted cities were in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi, pointing to local emissions as the main culprit year-round.
