Goa nightclub fire: Co-owner arrested after faking injury

India

Ajay Gupta, co-owner of Birch by Romeo Lane in Goa, was arrested after a tragic nightclub fire killed 25 people—five tourists and 20 staff—recently.
Gupta had been hiding out at a Delhi hospital, pretending to have a spinal injury to avoid police.

How the arrest went down—and what's next

Gupta tried to stay off the radar by switching locations and barely using his phone. His plan to fake illness didn't work; Delhi Police Crime Branch caught him at the hospital.
He'll be presented in a Delhi court before being taken back to Goa, where he faces serious charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and negligence.
Four staff members have also been arrested as the investigation continues.
