Goa nightclub fire: Luthra brothers set for deportation after deadly blaze

India

Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, who ran the unlicensed Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Goa, are facing serious charges after a tragic fire on December 5 left 25 people dead.
The blaze started late at night near the kitchen; the exact cause remains under investigation, though initial reports of a gas cylinder explosion were later ruled out.
Most victims were trapped in the basement and died from suffocation, highlighting how unsafe the club was.

Where things stand now

The club had no valid licenses or safety clearances, making its operation illegal.
After their passports were canceled and Interpol got involved, Thai police caught up with the Luthra brothers in Phuket on December 11.
They're now being held in Bangkok as Indian authorities work to bring them back—a process that could take a few more days.
Meanwhile, five staff members and partner Ajay Gupta have been arrested, and another associate is still being sought for questioning.
