Government aims to end Naxalism by March 2026
The government is aiming to completely end Left Wing Extremism (LWE), often called Naxalism, by March 2026.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai told Parliament that their strict approach brought LWE incidents down by 88% from 2010 to 2025 (to 234 incidents in 2025).
He also pointed out that deaths linked to these incidents have dropped sharply, and security forces have killed 1,149 cadres since 2019.
Why this push matters
This push matters because LWE violence has affected many lives and communities for decades.
The government's four-part strategy—intense operations, asset seizures, development projects, and rehabilitation—has been central to that effort.
With recent funding and policy measures, officials are confident they'll meet their deadline.
For young people especially, it's about building safer spaces and more opportunities in regions once held back by conflict.
