Government deactivates 25 million+ Aadhaar numbers of deceased persons
The Indian government just deactivated more than 2.5 crore Aadhaar numbers belonging to people who have passed away.
Announced by Union Minister Jitin Prasada, this move is all about stopping identity fraud and making sure welfare benefits don't end up in the wrong hands.
It's a big step to keep India's digital ID system clean and trustworthy.
New tech features are rolling out
To make things even more secure, new tech features are rolling out—like a Biometric Lock/Unlock so you control your own data, better face authentication with liveness checks, and encrypted data vaults for extra safety.
There's also a new app that enables families to securely share verified credentials and report deaths, plus QR codes and paperless e-KYC for smoother offline verification.
The goal: keep the database accurate and your info protected.
