Haridwar to relocate raw meat shops for 2027 Ardh Kumbh
India
Haridwar is gearing up for the 2027 Ardh Kumbh Mela by planning to move all raw meat shops operating within the city's urban limits outside city limits.
This step is meant to keep things clean and respect the rules that ban meat, liquor, and eggs near Har Ki Pauri, especially with huge crowds of devotees expected from January 2027.
Haridwar plans sarai village shift, fines
If approved, all raw meat shops operating within the urban area would be shifted to Sarai village on the outskirts.
The city has around 20 licensed shops but also some unlicensed vendors causing hygiene concerns. Fines are coming for them.
Religious leader Mahant Ravindra Puri and Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan have both backed the move, saying it helps protect the spiritual vibe of this major event.
