HC benches recuse from HDFC Bank CEO fraud case
HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan is facing serious allegations—an FIR claims he took ₹2.05 crore to help the Chetan Mehta Group illegally take control of the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which runs Mumbai's well-known Lilavati Hospital.
Jagdishan has called these charges "baseless" and says they're payback for unpaid dues owed by the Mehta family to HDFC Bank.
Trust wants CBI probe into 'wider conspiracy' involving Jagdishan
Since early June, several Bombay High Court benches have stepped away from hearing Jagdishan's plea to quash the FIR, often because of past links with the Trust or its lawyers, or even holding HDFC shares.
The latest bench—Justices M S Sonak and Jitendra Jain—also recused themselves, so now the case is waiting for a new bench.
Meanwhile, the Trust has asked for a CBI investigation into what it calls a wider conspiracy involving Jagdishan.
