Heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane; IMD issues red alert

Since September 27, Mumbai and nearby areas have been getting drenched with heavy rain, leading the weather department (IMD) to issue a red alert for Palghar and Thane.
The warning covers intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds—raising concerns about flooding and waterlogging.
Locals are being urged to stay cautious.

Schools shut in Palghar district

To keep students safe, all government and private schools in Palghar district are closed today (September 29), as ordered by District Collector Manik Gursal.
He's also asked teachers and staff to be ready in case emergency help is needed.
The IMD says this rainy spell could last until October 3, so authorities are taking extra steps to minimize risks during this wet stretch.
