Hindi varsity students suspended for mocking Savarkar

India

Ten students at Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha, have been suspended for chanting slogans against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar during an unofficial campus celebration.
The gathering was held to mark Aditi Mishra's win in the JNU student union elections, where some students—linked to the National Students's Union of India—were heard saying "sorry, sorry Savarkar," referencing his controversial apologies to the British.

ABVP complained to university officials, local police

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) complained to both university officials and local police, which quickly led to a show-cause notice and a disciplinary meeting.
University Proctor Dr. Rakesh Kumar Mishra referred to the slogans as "derogatory slogans insulting the dignity of great men" and said strict action was necessary.
The result: a 14-day suspension for those involved, plus a police report filed as tensions rise between student groups on campus.
