IMD warns low-pressure area to intensify weather along east coast
A new low-pressure area has popped up over the northwest Bay of Bengal, and it's got the weather folks on alert.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system is expected to intensify atmospheric activity along eastern coastal regions, especially West Bengal, Odisha, and north Andhra Pradesh, until August 24, with squally weather and rough to very rough sea conditions.
It all started with a cyclonic circulation near the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast early Sunday.
Coastal winds 40-50km/h, fishing no-go
The IMD is warning about squally weather, with winds reaching 40-50km/h (and gusts up to 60km/h) over affected coastal waters.
Fishing is a no-go for now, as sea conditions are set to stay rough or even hazardous.
Local ports and disaster teams are staying watchful while everyone waits for things to settle down.
