India bans Telegram over widespread unlawful examination material before retest
India
Telegram has been banned in India after the government said it was used for the widespread circulation of unlawful examination-related material.
Officials described Telegram as a "new dark web," arguing it is too tricky to separate legal from illegal content, so they went for a temporary restriction just before the June 21 retest.
Telegram challenges ban, court seeks proof
Telegram pushed back in court, saying the ban affects millions and that they have been cooperating with authorities since June 1.
The Delhi High Court asked the government for proof but did not pause the ban.
A new order on this is expected soon.
