India boosts fertilizer stocks amid LNG crisis
India is facing nearly a 40% hit to its LNG flow amid the ongoing Gulf crisis.
To keep things running smoothly, the government is rolling out an optimization plan to make sure essentials like fertilizers are not hit too hard.
The Fertilizer Association of India says this slow season actually helps refill stocks and tweak operations for later.
Nonessential sectors will have to adjust
The government has boosted fertilizer stocks to 17.7 million tons and scheduled maintenance for some fertilizer plants while demand is low, so production will not stall when things pick up.
To fill the gap left by less Qatari LNG, roughly 60% of its LNG comes from non-West Asia sources, and Australia and Canada are among countries being pursued for additional supplies.
Nonessential sectors will have to adjust, but officials say these moves should help protect food production and keep supplies steady.
