India evacuates nearly 1,200 from Iran after military strikes
Nearly 1,200 Indians, many of them students, have been evacuated from Iran after recent military strikes in West Asia made things unsafe.
With flights grounded and Iranian airspace closed, the Indian embassy helped people cross into Armenia and Azerbaijan by land to get them out safely.
Evacuees moved to Armenia and Azerbaijan
According to the External Affairs Ministry, 977 Indians were moved to Armenia and 194 to Azerbaijan.
Sadly, eight Indians have lost their lives in related violence across West Asia, and several more have been injured, including three in Dubai (one has since been discharged).
Indian missions are stepping up with visa help and transit support for those still stuck as part of ongoing efforts to keep about 10 million Indians in the region safe while tensions continue.
