India kicks off major military makeover in 'Year of reforms'
India is fast-tracking a big change in how its Army, Navy, and Air Force work together, aiming to improve jointness by placing service resources under single theater commanders for specific geographical or threat-centric operations.
The Defence Ministry wants to lock in plans and start rolling them out—hoping to strengthen India's defense against rising threats from neighbors.
Why should you care?
This new setup, called theatreisation, means India can react faster and more efficiently to challenges from countries like China and Pakistan.
It ditches the old "everyone does their own thing" approach for a team effort, inspired by global models.
But making it happen isn't simple—there are hurdles like inter-service rivalries and leadership issues.
If India pulls it off, though, its military will be much better equipped for modern challenges that go way beyond just land or sea battles.
