Born on June 22, 1994, Marnus Labuschagne is a South African-born Australian right-arm leg-break bowler and right-handed batsman who plays for the Australian cricket team and represents the Queensland cricket team in domestic cricket. His parents moved to Australia when he was 10 years old. He made his first-class cricket debut at the Adelaide Oval during the 2014-2015 Sheffield Shield season against South Australia. He made his List A cricket debut in 2015. As of 2021, he has played 95 First-class matches and 51 List A matches. In 2018, Labuschagne made his international Test debut against Pakistan. In 2020, he made his One Day International debut against India. As of 2021, he has played 31 international matches. In 2019, he became the first player to become a concussion substitute in a Test match, replacing Steve Smith, after the latter suffered an injury. He was placed at fourth position in the 2019 ICC Player Rankings. In 2020, he was named ICC’s Emerging Player of the Year, Australia’s Test Player of the year, and was named Cricketer of the Year by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. He has been associated with Brisbane Heat and Glamorgan in county cricket.
