India launches deportation manual 2026 for border and immigration agencies
India just introduced the Deportation Manual 2026, a step-by-step guide meant to help officials spot, detain, and deport people living in the country illegally.
The manual is designed for agencies like the Border Guarding Forces and the Bureau of Immigration, aiming to make the whole process faster and more consistent across all states.
District magistrates can verify citizenship claims
States now have to set up district-level teams, under police supervision, to identify migrants and check their documents within 30 days.
While this check is happening, migrants will stay in local holding centers.
District magistrates also get more power: they can now officially verify citizenship claims themselves, which is especially relevant for Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants.
This move comes at a time when migration issues are heating up ahead of elections in border states.
