India limits GLP-1 prescriptions to specialist doctors, curbing unauthorized sales

India just rolled out strict new rules for GLP-1 drugs, the medications people use to manage type 2 diabetes and obesity.
From now on, only specialist doctors such as endocrinologists can prescribe them.

DCGI steps up GLP-1 checks

The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) is ramping up checks at pharmacies, clinics, and warehouses to enforce the new rules.
Breaking them could mean fines or losing your license.
Misleading ads and illegal sales are also banned now.
These steps are all about keeping people safe, since using GLP-1 drugs without supervision can lead to serious side effects such as pancreatitis or kidney issues.
