India records 26 Maoist incidents by mid-March, Nityanand Rai says
India
India saw 26 incidents of Maoist violence by mid-March 2026, leading to five civilian deaths and one security force death.
Minister Nityanand Rai told Parliament that only two districts are now heavily affected by left-wing extremism, down from 126 in 2013.
The incidents resulted in the deaths of 52 Naxals this year.
Home Ministry: left-wing extremism down 88%
The Home Ministry says left-wing extremism incidents have dropped a huge 88% since 2010, with just 234 cases last year.
Hundreds of Naxals were neutralized or surrendered in 2025.
Still, about 35 districts need ongoing support to stay stable, and the government is working to cut off funding for these groups.
