India secures emergency LPG supply amid West Asia crisis
India just secured a massive, around 1 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), mostly sourced from the US to cover a big supply gap: equivalent to roughly 20 very large gas carriers (VLGCs), with arrangements made for roughly half the shortfall (about 20 VLGCs), and those cargoes expected to arrive from the end of the month.
This move is crucial for more than 330 million people who count on LPG for daily cooking, especially since supplies from West Asia have hit a snag.
Efforts to ensure smooth gas supply
To avoid any disruption, the government has ramped up local LPG production and used emergency powers to boost output.
They've also enforced special rules to make sure households and transport keep getting their gas.
With global tensions shaking up regular supply routes, leaders are working hard to diversify where India gets its energy, these measures aim to reduce the risk of household shortages, though temporary disruptions remain possible.
