India shifts to piped gas halting LPG for piped customers
India's dealing with a cooking gas crunch, made worse by the conflict in Iran.
To keep kitchens running, the government is shifting focus to piped natural gas and will halt supplies after three months for customers linked to piped gas connections.
It's all about cutting back on expensive LPG imports and making energy supplies more reliable.
India's piped network adds 580,000 homes
The piped gas network just got a major boost, with 580,000 new homes hooked up in March 2026, way up from last year.
Companies like Indraprastha Gas are even lowering installation costs to get more people on board.
Looking ahead, Gajendra Singh, a member of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, wants to reach 35 to 40 million households by 2030, which should make fuel delivery smoother and reduce subsidies too.
