India to become world's largest agri-processed food exporter, says Goyal
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal just set a big goal: he wants India to become the world's largest exporter of agricultural and processed foods.
Speaking at the Aahaar Fair in Delhi, he said India should not settle for being the seventh-largest exporter and should aim to be number one.
He called on everyone in food, farming, and hospitality to pitch in.
From 2014 to FY25 (2014-2025), about 11 years
India's agri-processed food exports have jumped from earlier levels in 2014 to around $55 billion in FY25, making us the seventh-largest exporter globally.
Goyal credits new free trade agreements (nine signed with 38 countries in just 3.5 years) and a 1 trillion rupee fund for processing as key drivers.
He also stressed that protecting farmers and small businesses is a priority, so products like dairy, rice, wheat, and sugar are shielded under these trade deals.
Teamwork and fresh ideas needed for this transformation
Goyal urged focus on food processing, value addition and infrastructure to access higher-value global markets.
His message? With teamwork and fresh ideas, India could soon lead the world's food market.
