Indian government blocks Telegram under Section 69A before NEET-UG re-exam
Just before the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam, the Indian government temporarily blocked Telegram and explained its move in the Delhi High Court.
Officials said they wanted to prevent any exam leaks or misuse, and that the ban was issued after weeks of talks with Telegram since May.
The order came under Section 69A of the IT Act.
Indian government says Telegram ignored warnings
The Center said Telegram didn't fix problems like the alleged non-disclosure of data or the source of information linked to channels that came under scrutiny, even after multiple warnings.
They claimed evidence of misuse was "shocking."
Telegram responded by saying it had blocked some channels but felt the ban was too harsh for millions of regular users.
The court has asked both sides for more information and will hear the case again after the government places its response and supporting material on record.
