Indian Navy launches iOS SAGAR to strengthen Indian Ocean security
The Indian Navy just kicked off a new mission called Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR to strengthen maritime security in the Indian Ocean region, especially with tensions rising in West Asia.
Launched on April 2 in Mumbai, this effort brings together 16 partner nations and focuses on improving teamwork and readiness at sea.
Admiral Tripathi cites broader maritime threats
Admiral Tripathi pointed out that today's maritime challenges go beyond oil: they now include rare earth minerals, data, illegal fishing, and piracy.
With around 3,700 incidents reported last year and drug busts topping $1 billion in 2025, the stakes are high.
As part of the mission, ships will stop at ports like Colombo and Phuket for joint training in navigation and safety, helping everyone stay sharp against emerging threats.
