Indian Railways to introduce overnight Vande Bharat trains: All details
Big news for travelers: Indian Railways will soon make 260 new Vande Bharat sleeper trains, designed for comfy overnight trips up to 1,500km.
Announced by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, these trains are being built by BEML and Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.
Each train set will have 16 coaches
Each train set packs 16 coaches—think 11 AC 3-tier, four AC 2-tier, and one First AC—fitting up to 823 passengers.
They'll zip along at speeds up to 160km/h (with a top design speed of 180km/h) and promise a much smoother ride thanks to upgraded suspension.
Already operational between Howrah and Kamakhya (Guwahati) as of February 2026
Two rakes have already been manufactured and, after trials, are presently operational between Howrah and Kamakhya (Guwahati).
More routes like Delhi-Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Patna are lined up.
Expect faster journeys and way more comfort than your usual sleeper trains.
Trains will also have USB charging ports, CCTV cameras
These trains come loaded with perks: ergonomic berths for better sleep, automatic doors, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports at every seat, sensor-based lighting, CCTV security—and accessible restrooms for persons with disabilities.
