Israel-Iran war impacts India's tile industry; 100 factories already shut
Morbi, Gujarat, the heart of India's tile industry, is facing a major crisis as the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict has choked propane gas supplies.
Nearly 100 ceramic factories have already shut down, and another 400 could close within a week if things do not improve.
This matters because Morbi makes over 90% of India's tiles and gives jobs to about 600,000 people.
Export orders stuck, payment cycles at risk
With Gujarat Gas reportedly cutting supply by about 50% to each factory, and propane tanker deliveries becoming irregular, factories relying on Gujarat Gas might have to stop work by March 14 or 15, 2026 if the shortage continues.
Industry leader Manoj Arvadiya says, unless supply routes reopen soon, the situation is likely to worsen.
Export orders are stuck too, putting payment cycles and workers' livelihoods at risk.
Even the state's chief minister is stepping in for possible relief talks.
