Jaipur Literature Festival London honors plane crash victims
The Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) London kicked off at the British Library with a moving tribute to the 270 lives lost in the Air India Ahmedabad-London plane crash, including 53 British nationals. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor led a minute of silence, setting a thoughtful tone for the festival.
'Language can bring comfort...': Tharoor on honoring the victims
During the ceremony, Tharoor admitted how tough it is to put deep sorrow into words, while historian Shrabani Basu pointed out that sharing language can bring comfort and connection. The Royal Family will also pay respects by observing a minute's silence and wearing black armbands at Trooping the Colour.
JLF London celebrates literature, art, cultural exchange
Beyond remembrance, JLF London is all about big conversations—bringing together voices like Banu Mushtaq and Javed Akhtar to talk literature, art, and cultural exchange. Co-directed by William Dalrymple and Namita Gokhale, it's about building bridges between India and the UK through stories and ideas.
