Jaishankar at UNGA: Terrorism is a global issue

India

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke at the 80th United Nations General Assembly this week, urging world leaders to "choke" the flow of money to terrorists, describing terrorism as a global issue.
He also pointed out that the UN needs to reflect on its performance, especially since Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are far from being met.

UN's job is to build peace, not just stop wars

Jaishankar didn't just talk about stopping wars—he reminded everyone that the UN's job is also to actually build peace.
He called for teamwork against challenges like terrorism and conflict.
While in New York, he chaired meetings with BRICS and IBSA foreign ministers, where leaders criticized protectionism and condemned violence in Palestine.
Both groups doubled down on their zero-tolerance stance after the April 2025 terror attacks in Pahalgam.

Jaishankar meets US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

Jaishankar also met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss trade tensions related to Trump's tariffs.
Things got a bit tense when US President Donald Trump claimed tariffs solved India-Pakistan issues—a statement India quickly dismissed.
Meanwhile, BRICS and IBSA jointly called for stronger global cooperation against violence and repeated their stand against using starvation or terror as weapons.
