External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has thanked Armenia and its Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan for their help in evacuating Indian fishermen from Iran. The operation saw over 550 Indians brought back safely amid escalating tensions in West Asia. In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, Thank FM @AraratMirzoyan and the Government of Armenia for facilitating the evacuation of Indian fishermen today from Iran, through Armenia to India (sic).

Evacuation efforts
Over 1,200 Indian nationals evacuated from Iran
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has confirmed that over 1,200 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Iran amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said these evacuations were done through Armenia and Azerbaijan with close coordination from the Indian government. Out of those evacuated, 845 are students.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been active on the diplomatic front, talking to world leaders about the West Asia conflict. On March 28, he spoke with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and condemned attacks on energy infrastructure in the region. The MEA is working closely with Indian missions and local authorities in Armenia and Azerbaijan for the safe return of citizens.
Passenger return
Over 6 lakh passengers return to India
Since February 28, over six lakh passengers have returned to India from West Asia due to the security situation. Additional Secretary (Gulf) Aseem R Mahajan said airlines are operating limited non-scheduled flights based on operational and safety considerations between the UAE and India. Around 90 flights are expected to operate from the UAE to various destinations in India today, he added.
