Kanpur woman alleges sexual abuse, occult rituals and dowry demands
A 25-year-old woman from Kanpur has accused her husband and his family of forcing her into sexual abuse and disturbing occult rituals after their marriage in March 2024.
Even after giving a large dowry, she says her in-laws kept demanding more, including cash and a house.
She finally left for her parents' home in January 2025 after enduring these experiences for months.
FIR filed against husband and family
The woman reported that she was made to undress for occult ceremonies and locked in a room with her father-in-law under threats.
A first information report has now been filed against her husband and his family under laws related to cruelty, assault, and dowry harassment.
Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal confirmed the investigation is active, with video evidence reportedly submitted by the complainant.
The case is another reminder of the urgent need to address dowry-related violence and abuse.
