Karnataka drafts 2026 Bengaluru parking rules with permits, fees
Bengaluru might soon see big changes in how you park your car.
The Karnataka government has drafted new parking rules for 2026, aiming to charge for street parking and require eligible residents to get annual residential parking permits for four-wheelers, costing ₹15,000 for hatchbacks, ₹20,000 for sedans, and ₹25,000 for SUVs.
The plan is to identify and expand parking spaces and make parking more orderly.
Residents can comment until September 10
The proposal includes hourly street parking fees (₹20 to ₹80), more off-street lots, leasing unused land for parking, and tax breaks if private landowners open up spaces.
But experts and citizen groups say the focus is more on making money than fixing public transport or walkability.
Worried about higher costs, residents have until September 10 to share feedback.
