Karnataka farmers protest Kabini water release to Tamil Nadu
Karnataka farmers are upset about water being sent from the Kabini reservoir to Tamil Nadu, and they gathered near the deputy commissioner's office on Monday to make their voices heard.
They say the reservoir's water level has dropped almost 10 feet in just 25 days, putting their crops at risk and making them anxious about their future.
Kurubur Shanthakumar warns of Kabini takeover
Farmers want the water release paused immediately, arguing that Kabini was built mainly for Karnataka's agriculture.
Kurubur Shanthakumar, who leads the state farmers' federation, feels local needs are being ignored and criticizes officials for holding key meeting in Bengaluru without consulting affected farmers.
Another leader, Attahalli Devaraj, questioned why decisions weren't made closer to where the problem is.
If things don't change soon, Kurubur Shanthakumar warned that farmers would be forced to take control of the Kabini reservoir if the government failed to prevent the reservoir from being emptied.
