Kerala: Intense rainfall triggers floods, landslides; orange alert in 12 districts

India

Kerala is dealing with intense rainfall this Sunday, leading to serious flooding in several areas.
The IMD has issued orange alerts for Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Eight more districts are on yellow alert, and Lakshadweep is under an orange alert.
Dam shutters have been opened to manage rising water levels, which has caused flooding in low-lying regions.

Crops damaged, fishermen warned

Flooding has forced evacuations in parts of Idukki and triggered landslides, making things tough for locals and authorities.
Water released from Mullaperiyar and Kallar dams means people living along nearby rivers need to stay alert.
Farmland and crops in Malappuram have been damaged by floodwaters, while fishermen are being told to avoid the sea until October 22 due to rough weather ahead.
