Kerala under heat wave alert: What to do, not do
Kerala is under a heat wave alert, and a state disaster authority has issued a heat warning.
Palakkad recorded high temperatures, while other areas also saw high temperatures.
Thiruvananthapuram is also dealing with intense humidity and a high UV index.
Risks of sunstroke, dehydration go up
This kind of heat isn't just uncomfortable: it can actually be dangerous, especially for kids, older people, outdoor workers, and gig workers. Risks like sunstroke and dehydration go up fast in these conditions.
The government has asked officials to set up drinking-water kiosks at public gathering points such as markets, junctions and bus stands.
The health department will start special heat clinics and equip primary health centers to provide first aid for sunstroke cases.
KSDMA's tips for people
KSDMA suggests staying out of direct sun from 11am to 3pm drinking plenty of water or ORS (even sambaram counts!), and wearing light cotton clothes or hats.
Schools are being told to keep exam halls cool and provide shade outside.
Markets must do fire safety checks, and even animals need extra care right now.
If you have to go out during peak hours, take it slow and stay protected.
