Kerala's Guruvayur temple hosts record 437 weddings on Chingam Sunday
Big day at Kerala's Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple: 437 couples tied the knot on Sunday, August 23, 2026, setting a new record for the most weddings there in one day.
The ceremonies kicked off before sunrise and saw around 137 marriages within just two hours.
This all happened on the first Sunday of Chingam, which is considered super lucky for weddings at the temple.
Devaswom Board managed logistics and security
To keep things running smoothly, six mandapams were set up so more than 60 weddings could happen every hour.
Each couple could bring up to 24 guests to avoid crowding.
The Devaswom Board managed everything with tokens and kept more than 100 police officers on duty for safety. Ambulances and doctors were also ready just in case.
As Board Chairman A.V. Gopinath put it, everyone's cooperation made this massive event possible: "The most important factor here is the cooperation of the public in Guruvayur. Restrictions have been placed on regular devotees coming for darshan, and the public has extended immense support to facilitate this auspicious time for the weddings."
