Kolkata: Drunk men harass woman journalist at railway station

India

On Thursday night, a 23-year-old woman journalist was harassed and assaulted by a group of six to seven drunk men while returning home alone at Sodepur railway station, Kolkata.
The group followed her, made obscene remarks, and touched her inappropriately.

No 1 helped her

When she tried to defend herself by slapping one of the men, they hit her back and ran away. She suffered facial injuries but still tried to chase them.
Shockingly, no one at the station stepped in to help, and she later said two Government Railway Police officers told her to first identify the accused and then lodge a complaint when she reported the attack.

Activists demand better safety measures

An FIR was finally filed after the officer-in-charge of Dum Dum GRP intervened the next day.
Police have identified two suspects using CCTV footage and are searching for them.
Activists are now demanding swift action against those responsible and better safety measures at suburban railway stations.
