Kolkata teen steals ₹1.5cr from friend's house using soap impression
A 19-year-old BCA student, Harshvardhan Shaw, is accused of stealing ₹1.5 crore in gold and cash from his friend's luxury apartment in Behala, Kolkata.
While the family was away between January 19-23, Shaw allegedly used a soap impression to copy their key and let himself into the flat.
Shaw even stole a neighbor's CCTV disk
Shaw ordered an electric saw and money counter online to break open a locker and count his haul—making off with 1.2kg of gold jewelry and ₹26.5 lakh in cash.
To hide what he'd done, he even stole a neighbor's CCTV disk while pretending to help with security issues.
Police tracked him down using CCTV footage, call records, internet searches, and Amazon data; after his arrest on February 2, he confessed; the police recovered the stolen jewelry, the electric saw and a majority of the cash.
Shaw has been remanded to police custody until February 8 as the investigation continues—a reminder for everyone about keeping home security tight.
